Massachusetts General Hospital

Massachusetts General Hospital is a 999 bed general medical and surgical facility that is the third oldest hospital in the US, and is the original teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. MGH is ranked as one of the top 10 hospitals in the US by US News & World Report, and is the top receiver of NIH research grants. MGH has had a consistent commitment to delivering standard-setting medical care, enabled through pioneering research and multi-disciplinary educational programs for health care professionals. Multiple centers of excellence for patient care and research are located in and surrounding the main campus of MGH.

The MGH Obstetrics and Gynecology Service is the third largest admitting service at MGH. In close proximity to a 13-bed labor and delivery suite are ante- and post-partum units in addition to a 14 bed tertiary care Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In-patient gynecologic facilities are located in a near-by tower. In addition to inpatient services, the Yawkey Center for Outpatient Care houses much of the department’s outpatient care and services. In addition, the department provides outpatient care and services at 4 surrounding neighborhood health centers as well as at satellite, out-reach facilities.

The MGH environment fosters collaborations among internationally recognized experts in all disciplines. This assures ready access of our patients to comprehensive routine, consultative services, and emergency services including cardiac, surgical, respiratory, and medical intensive care units, 24 hours a day imaging by multiple modalities, and interventional radiology. In addition to the multiple on-site and near-by research facilities that facilitate interdisciplinary research, The Vincent Center for Reproductive Biology (VCRB), is devoted to basic research in the areas of infertility and gynecologic cancers and to basic, translational and clinical research in all areas of women's health. The Deborah Kelly Center for Outcomes Research facilitates obstetrical and gynecologic outcomes-based research in women’s health care. The VCRB and Kelly Center researchers and facilities provide opportunities for both faculty and trainee research.

MGH is located in the West End of Boston, next door to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and close to Boston City Hall, the Federal Buildings, Beacon Hill and the Massachusetts State House. In addition, the TD Garden (Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics), Boston Public Gardens, and multiple historic sites are near-by.

MGH and BWH are three miles apart with travel between hospitals facilitated by frequent shuttle service.
