Global Health

Many of our ob/gyn residents have an interest in global health and the residency program has many resources for people to pursue this interest from didactics to elective experiences to engagement in research with faculty focusing on global health related research.  During the PGY3 year, each resident has a month long research block.  Some residents opt to use that month for a rotation at an international site.  Sites in the past have included Rwanda, Senegal, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Ghana, Guatemala, Geneva (WHO) and Botswana.  The residency program offers financial support to help defray the costs of these experiences.  Our Pitcher Garrett fund is available for all residents to use.  You can learn more about that funding here under Program Perks.  Additional funding can also be obtained at the MGB Center for Expertise and the MGH Center for Global Health. Faculty engaged in global health research and programmatic work facilitate these electives for residents and ensure rotations are a safe learning experience with mutual benefits and engagement from faculty and colleagues working at receiving sites.
